Born in Lakenheath (Mildenhall Q1-1919 4A:1200), son of James and Jessie MATTHEWS (née ALLSOP.
He married Irene Reebey CARTER, of Lakenheath, Suffolk.(Newmarket Q4-1939 4A:4370)

In the 1939 register, at 48 Mill Road, Lakenheath were his father James [3-9-1881] a drainage labourer, and his mother Jessie [3-2-1881]. No closed records.




The 14th November 1942 was the day after the re-capture of Tobruk by the 8th Army. The 67th Medium Regiment had 44 killed that day, none have identified grave, all are named on the Alamein Memorial
